Grape seed extract is obtained from the crushed red seeds of Vitis vinifera L. and its varieties [Fam. Vitaceae].
The seeds contain nutritionally useful essential fatty acids, tocopherols (vitamin E), and procyanidins. Procyanidins are polyphenols, polymers of catechin and leucoanthocyanidins.
Commercial preparations are normally standardized to oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs).
Average daily dosage for general health purposes: 50mg. to 100mg.
Average daily dosage to treat illness: 150mg. to 300mg.
