Iron uses?

Iron is an important part of protein called hemoglobin in red blood cells and another protein called myoglobin within cells; both proteins are main transporters of oxygen in the body.

Many enzymes depend on iron, including those that make the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine (brain chemicals that influence mood and behavior.)

Iron strengthens the immune system and increases resistance to colds, infections, and disease.

Iron is needed to prevent iron-deficiency anemia, in which red blood cells are not able to carry enough oxygen to meet the body's needs. Symptoms of anemia include fatigue, poor concentration, and increased colds and infections.

Iron helps make collagen, a protein that builds connective tissues.
