What is chromium?

Chromium is a trace mineral.

The average-size adult body contains approximately 6mg. of chromium.

Current research on chromium?

Body Composition: Some research shows that chromium supplements (in a form called chromium picolinate) might enhance body fat loss and improve muscle development. However, other research has not confirmed this effect.

Cardiovascular Disease: Chromium might lower the risk of heart disease by reducing total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in the blood.

Diabetes: Chromium helps prevent the development of adult-onset diabetes. Optimal chromium intake improves glucose tolerance, increases cell sensitivity to insulin, and reduces the amount of insulin needed to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Symptoms in chromium-deficient diabetics improve during chromium supplementation; however, individuals who are well nourished in chromum show no benefits from chromium supplements.
