Major internal: Mild to moderate depression.
Minor internal: Psychovegetative disturbances, depressive moods, anxiety and/or nervous unrest, oily hypericum preparations for dyspeptic complaints.
Minor external: Oily hypericum preparations are used to treat contusions, myalgia, and first-degree burns. Synthetic hypericin is currently under development as an anti-retroviral agent for the transfusion blood supply. Excitability, neuralgia, wounds, menopausal neurosis.
Actions: A mild antidepressant, anti-inflammatory (oily hypericum), sedative, anxiolytic.
Note: According to initial experimental observation, hypericin was categorized amoung the MAO inhibitors, but subsequent research has ruled out MAO activity in St. John's Wort or its preparations.
