Milk thistle fruit consists of the ripe seed, freed from the pappus, of Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertner, (syn. Carduus marianus L.) [Fam. Asteraceae].
The seed contains silymarin (1.5% to 3%), a name collectively given to three compounds silibinin (silybin, silydianin, and silychristin.)
Unless otherwise prescribed.
Standardized extract formulations equivalent to 200mg. to 400mg. of silymarin, calculated as silibinin.
