What is ginger root?

Ginger consists of the peeled, finger-long, fresh or dried rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe [Fam. Zingiberaceae].

The rhizome contains essential oil, principally the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons zingiberene and bisabolene, and pungent principles (gingerols and shogaols).

How much ginger do I need?

Daily dosage: 2g. to 4g. rhizome; equivalent preparations.

As an antiemetic: Single dose of powdered rhizome: 1g. to 2g.

Duration of administration: No restriction.
