What is arginine?

Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid.

A dietary source of arginine generally is not needed by adults, since they make enough arginine in their bodies; consequently, arginine is not considered essential for men and women.

During periods of growth, such as childhood, arginine is not always made in sufficient quantities; consequently, arginine is considered semi-essential for children and dietary sources are required.

Current research on arginine?

Athletes: People involved in strength-training workouts who take 3,000mg supplements of combined arginine and lysine might have increased secretion of growth hormone during resting conditions.
